# ClariRec > ClariRec is a local-first native macOS OCR application for extracting text from screenshots, clipboard images, and image files. It is free and does not require an account. ClariRec uses Apple's built-in Vision framework to perform OCR on-device by default. It is local-first, not local-only: if you enable optional BYOK OCR or translation, the selected screenshot or text is sent directly from your Mac to the provider or compatible endpoint you configure. ClariRec does not operate servers that receive OCR or translation content. The app lives in the macOS menu bar. Press ⌥S to capture a screen region, or ⌥V to recognize an image already in your clipboard. You can also OCR supported image files. Recognized text can be copied, exported to `.txt` or `.md`, translated, or turned into a Markdown table when a grid layout is detected. ClariRec also exposes a `clarirec://` URL scheme and Shortcuts actions for automation. ## Key Facts - Platform: macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) and later, Universal Binary (Apple Silicon + Intel) - Price: Free, no subscription, no account required - Default OCR engine: Apple Vision framework (on-device by default) - Optional BYOK OCR and translation providers: Custom Vision API (Chat Completions compatible), Qwen, Mistral AI, Azure Document Intelligence, Baidu OCR, Google Cloud Vision, and DeepL - Optional AI translation: via your configured provider or supported macOS system translation - Shortcuts: ⌥S (screenshot OCR), ⌥V (clipboard OCR) - Privacy boundary: app content is not sent to ClariRec-operated servers; BYOK sends selected content directly to the provider you configure - App analytics: the macOS app itself does not include analytics or telemetry SDKs - App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/clarirec/id6757385283?mt=12 - Contact: clarirec@outlook.com ## Pages - [Home](https://clarirec.com/): Main landing page for screenshot OCR on Mac, with workflow overview, trust boundary summary, FAQ, and App Store download link - [About](https://clarirec.com/about/): Detailed feature and workflow description for ClariRec on macOS - [Local OCR for macOS](https://clarirec.com/local-ocr-macos/): Explains the local-first OCR boundary, permissions, network triggers, and verification guidance - [ClariRec vs Apple Live Text](https://clarirec.com/vs-apple-live-text/): Compares built-in Live Text with a dedicated OCR workflow for repeated tasks - [Privacy Policy](https://clarirec.com/privacy/): Full privacy policy — explains local-first data model, what data is processed, retention, and BYOK data flow - [Terms of Use](https://clarirec.com/terms-of-use/): Terms and conditions for using ClariRec ## Optional - [中文首页](https://clarirec.com/zh/): Chinese landing page for Mac screenshot OCR and local-first processing - [关于 ClariRec](https://clarirec.com/zh/about/): Chinese feature description and FAQ - [macOS 本地 OCR](https://clarirec.com/zh/local-ocr-macos/): Chinese trust page covering permissions, local processing, and network boundaries - [ClariRec vs Apple Live Text](https://clarirec.com/zh/vs-apple-live-text/): Chinese comparison page for built-in Live Text vs dedicated OCR workflow - [隐私政策](https://clarirec.com/zh/privacy/): Chinese privacy policy - [用户协议](https://clarirec.com/zh/terms-of-use/): Chinese terms of use
