What it does

ClariRec is a menu-bar OCR app for people who copy text from screenshots often. It also handles clipboard images (⌥V) and image files.

After recognition you can edit the text, export .txt / .md, copy Markdown tables, or continue into translation. Translation can use a free local model (offline after download), Apple Intelligence (macOS 26+), system translation (macOS 15+), BYOK cloud providers, macOS Services, or ⌥T.

Compared with Apple Live Text: Live Text is enough for occasional selection; ClariRec is for a dedicated capture loop. See ClariRec vs Apple Live Text.

Privacy in one minute

Default System OCR stays on your Mac. ClariRec does not operate servers that receive your screenshots or text. Content leaves the device only when you use BYOK OCR, cloud translation, or formula recognition — and then it goes directly to the endpoint you configure. Remote OCR execution and formula recognition require Pro (legacy access excepted).

FAQ

Is ClariRec free?

Core System OCR, local translation, provider setup, and BYOK translation are free. Pro unlocks remote OCR execution and formula recognition (one-time purchase).

Does it upload my screenshots?

Not by default. Only when you run BYOK OCR, cloud translation, or formula recognition — then content goes to your configured provider, not to ClariRec servers.

Does it work offline?

Yes for System OCR, the local model after download, and Apple Intelligence when available. Cloud features need the network.
